In General

Those who install and voice electronic organs (especially) and even pipe organs sometimes set the organ volume too loud. If a pipe organ is voiced too loud, it must be revoiced. Professionals must be consulted for all stages of this complex and expensive procedure.

The volume of an electronic organ can usually be adjusted easily by an organ technician, with the assistance of the organist:

  • Pull a very large stop combination, set the expression pedal(s) fully open, and then have the technician set the volume of the organ at the level to which a well-voiced pipe organ would sound in the room. Be sure to listen to the volume by moving towards the rear of the congregational seating, not from the organ console.

Until this adjustment is made, you will have to pull the expression pedal(s) partially closed to achieve a convincing organ volume every time you play.
