Registration marks in the score pose particular problems and dilemmas:
- EVERY ORGAN IS DIFFERENT, particularly considering that the room in which it is installed is part of the “instrument.”
- AUDIENCE SIZE affects acoustical properties and organ volume requirements.
- YOUR OWN TASTES CAN CHANGE. A registration combination that seemed fine one year may seem less than ideal the next.
- Our DESIRE FOR VARIETY may encourage us to start over each time we register a piece.
In summary, registration indications are much more temporary than fingering and pedaling.
