Adjusting Benches (continued)

If a fully adjustable bench is not an option, existing benches can be modified at a lower cost to meet the needs of various organists. The following approach will preserve the finished quality of the bench:

Acquire two slotted finished wood base pieces from an organ builder into which the bench legs can fit. Have a professional woodworker cut the bench down to a height specified by the maker of the base pieces. The slots in the base pieces into which the bench legs fit should be designed to raise and lower the bench to various commonly-used heights.
