“Joy to the World" (Antioch)
Pedal. The feet move about rather actively in the first and third lines, but prelocation will help simplify. For the crossing in m.4, prelocate the left foot onto the f-sharp as quickly as possible. Keep the right foot prelocated on the A after m. 6 for its re-entrance at m. 15.
Independence. In this rather quickly-moving hymn, be sure to retain the integrity of each line as you gradually increase the tempo.
Repeated notes. Using eighth rests between repeated notes can be effective in livelier hymns such as this, but you will have to use sixteenth rests between the frequent eighth notes.
Phrasing. Some of the phrase breaks are useful in clarifying the text (m. 2, 17). These can be smaller than the eighth rests at the end of musical phrases (m. 4, 8, 14, 16).
