SOLE

- SOLE. The sole should be thin, soft (flexible) leather trimmed flush with the uppers.
Some organists prefer a smooth leather finish on the sole and heel to allow easy sliding on the keys. Others, especially beginners, often prefer the rougher brushed or suede leather, which provides more grip and less slip. With practice, as pedal technique becomes more secure, the rougher leather becomes smoother and allows freer movement from key to key.
