Thumb Piston Locations

The number of thumb pistons varies from console to console, but there is some standard in their location.

DIVISIONAL or LOCAL combination pistons ("pre-sets"), if they are present, are usually found centered underneath their corresponding manuals. Great “locals,” for example, are found centered underneath the Great manual.

GENERAL combination pistons ("pre-sets") are usually located to the left underneath at least two of the manuals. If no divisional or local pistons are present, the “generals” are usually centered underneath the manuals.

MISCELLANEOUS pistons of various functions usually appear to the right. In this category are found reversibles, MIDI couplers, expression pedal controllers, etc.
