Introduction

Repeated Notes Identified

As they appear in most hymnbooks, hymns are vocal or choral music. The presence of text and the absence of the curly brace are evidence to this fact.

In order to perform hymns at the organ to good effect, modifications are often useful. One type of adjustment that many organists find useful is to tie some repeated notes that occur:

  • BETWEEN ADJACENT NOTES IN A SINGLE PART (see green lines to the right), or
  • BETWEEN "COMMON TONES"--two adjacent parts--(see brown lines).
