Phrasing the Text

The two phrase breaks that occur at points other than the ends of lines (outlined in purple) are not in agreement with the musical phrase structure, but might be observed anyway in order to help clarify the text.

No break is indicated in verse 3 line 3 after the word “Come” (outlined in green), even though there is a comma. Not all punctuation marks require a break for clarity. Sometimes there are so many commas that to treat all of them as phrase breaks would result in a fragmented, choppy rendition of the text.
