Getting Up or Down--BENCH HEIGHT
Because of the way the ankle works, the distance from the knee to the toe is variable. With a simple motion at the ankle you can raise and lower your toe several inches. On the other hand, the distance from the knee to the heel is almost fixed. For this reason, the height of the bench alone determines whether or not:
- you can comfortably suspend your feet over the pedal keys without playing them.
- you will be able to play natural pedal keys with the heel without pressing your leg into the bench or leaning forward.
- you will be able to reach the lower and upper extremes of the pedal keyboard, the expression and crescendo pedals, and the toe studs.
- you will feel strain on your lower back.
